YouTube Shorts Comment Overlay Guide for Creator Edits
Shorts move fast, so a comment overlay needs an immediate job: frame the question, establish a challenge, or introduce a requested follow-up.
Open the YouTube Shorts template ↗Use a comment to set up the first beat
Choose a question that makes the answer visually demonstrable. A broad compliment rarely gives an edit direction; a practical question gives the next shot a reason to exist.
Does the workflow still work when you only have 10 minutes?
Keep the overlay out of the action
Place the transparent PNG where it does not cover a caption, hands, product details, or the visual proof. Test it against the first shot rather than assuming the blank canvas is representative.
- Favor one or two short lines.
- Reveal the answer soon after the overlay.
- Remove repeated wording from the spoken hook.
Use the same language in the edit
Let the voiceover, first caption, and visual answer respond directly to the comment. That connection makes the mockup feel like an editorial device instead of an unrelated social graphic.
Creator tip: If the idea needs a long explanation, use a spoken setup and save the overlay for the key question.
